Access to funding

There is a significant EU budget for research and innovation and the flagship programme is Horizon 2020. Close to 80€bn euros will be invested between 2014-2020 to research and innovation across all areas of technology, with a more specific share of close to 4€bn for agriculture and agriculture-related areas. In addition to Horizon 2020, there is also the European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability, which supports smaller-scale and local projects.

While European research offers valuable opportunities for cooperation and access to high levels of excellence, connecting partners and supporting the smaller companies has always been a challenge. ESA, via its dedicated Working Group on Research & Innovation, aims to facilitate access for SMEs and micro-enterprises in particular, to these research programmes.
